Recycling Tops Easter To Do List

17/3/2010

Easter Bank Holiday weekend (2 — 5 April 2010) is traditionally the time when householders turn their thoughts to DIY and gardening. This year, with as many as one in three householders planning to carry out work on their house, re3 is reminding residents

Easter weekend is traditionally one of the busiest times to visit the Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) at Smallmead, Reading and Longshot Lane, Bracknell. If you want to avoid the "crowds" at the HWRC and spend more time in the garden take advantage of your kerbside garden waste collection, purchase a home composter or make your own compost heap.

And from 1 April 2010 the HWRCs will be open from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week — just in time for the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

A wide range of household waste can be recycled at the HWRCs — including plasterboard, soil, rubble, paint, aerosols, cardboard boxes and garden waste. However, residents are asked to check what they can bring to the sites by consulting the Waste Acceptance Policy.

re3 is also reminding residents there is now a height barrier (set at 1.95/6ft 4”) in place at both Smallmead and Longshot Lane HWRCs. Residents with a vehicle over 1.95m (6ft 4”) in height or a trailer longer than 6ft (1.83m) in length must call re3 to pre-book.

Over Easter, vehicles over 1.95m (6ft 4”) and trailers over 6ft in length will ONLY be able to access the HWRCs on Saturday 3 April, during a morning timeslot between 8-10 am. There will be no access for these vehicles on Good Friday, Easter Sunday or Easter Monday.

Residents whose vehicles are over 1.95m (6ft 4”) and trailers over 6ft in length are warned not to arrive on site without pre-booking, as they will be turned away. They are also are advised to book as early as possible as there are a limited number of slots available. The latest date pre-booking date to visit either site on Saturday 3 April or Tuesday 6 April is Thursday 1 April.

To make a booking, call re3 on 0800 9883023, during office hours (8.30am to 5pm) Monday to Friday.
