New to the HWRCs - Wood Recycling

15/7/2010

Smallmead and Longshot Lane Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) now accept all grades of wood for recycling.

This includes painted/treated wood, chipboard and MDF. Previously the sites only accepted “clean wood” for recycling, so the change means that a lot more material can now be recycled rather than sent to a landfill site.

The wood is being sent to a reprocessor in Kent where the cleaner wood is recycled into animal bedding. The most contaminated wood is used as a biomass fuel to generate energy.

If you are unsure whether the items you are taking to the HWRC can be recycled, please ask as member of staff for help. For more information about the items that you can recycle at the HWRCs please click here.
